return on a warm summer evening,
bringing with them the joy
of Christmas in July.

Memories
of sipping hot chocolate
on a snowy Oklahoma night
while watching
Christmas specials on TV.

Memories
of peppermint candy canes hanging
from the green branches
of a living Christmas tree.

Memories
of listening to
the eerie echoes
of a cold December wind
blowing through the naked boughs
of a cottonwood tree.
