As Summer arrives, the season of sports start as well. As we speak, the European Championship Soccer is in progress. Within a few weeks we have Wimbledon and Le Tour de France. Not to forget the Olympics in Athens. Many hours of sports will be registered live on TV. In this period for example there are two soccer games played per day to decide which countries are going to the quarter finals.

Our country is playing as well in the European Championship Soccer and had to play against Germany last Tuesday. It was silent in the streets, many people were watching the game on TV. Not me though. I am not interested in the game, so I usually crawl into a silent corner with a pen and pencil. And yes... I try to write - one way or the other... if I am inspired I can write a short story per evening. If my muse rather watches the game, I try to draw something. It usually inspires to write a new story or so, or a poem when I am lucky.

Question! What do you do, to get your muse back?

Weather you are a newbie in writing, or a more experienced writer, you'll run into this problem one day. It feels like a wall and your head is bumping into it time after time. So it seems...

You can't focus, your inspiration is gone. What can you do to get your inspiration back? Does reading other people's stories work? Find yourself a prompt and stare to an empty sheet of paper? Does that help?

Now I see some faces frowning. Maybe it is due to the fact that they recognized this. If not, don't worry... your time will come one day...

In the few years that I am writing now I have learned a lot. But how to deal with writers block is depending on the fact in which situation you are. Stress, for example is one of the "bad guys" which can block your inspiration completely. In such cases you have to make sure to eliminate the stress, before you can get back to writing again. Even when the problem is solved, your head can still be busy dealing with it.

What I usually do...

Actually it is very simple. I take a hot bath, close my eyes and relax. Meditate a bit. This way I let the negative thoughts flow out of my mind. When my mind is empty I usually experience that new thoughts are filling in the empty space. In this way entire stories can build up in your head. Let it flow, and when you are done with your bath, write the words down...

If that doesn't help, I usually take a long walk outside. Or start to work on a pile of laundry that needs to be ironed. In any way I avoid the computer as much as possible. One way or the other, the result will be the same in time... you'll get rid of your stress and your muse will pop in. Then it is time to get back on writing!
