WHEN YOU'RE GONE
WHEN YOU'RE GONE

[An admonition to man not to be proud but to reflect on what would happen when he is gone]

O mortal man, proud, arrogant,
Too confident of yourself,
Have you ever tried to reflect
If you will be forever?

You proclaim you are an atheist.
Well, let’s take that for granted.
But by denying His existence,
Do you become immortal?

Have you ever thought that one day,
When you’re gone, where will you be?
Will you go to heaven or hell?
Will you just mingle in dust?

Your body may roll in dirt but
What about your conscious self?
It is not tangible and, hence,
Can’t be buried in a grave.

Even though atheist, you cannot
Escape but this conclusion:
Your body may rot but, surely,
Your conscious self will survive.

So man, too proud of your wisdom,
Be humble and bow to Him.
This world was there before you came.
It will be when you are gone.
