MEMORIES
MEMORIES

[Old age memories—a bane or a boon?]

A gasp, a sigh, a cry, a tune,
A smile, a wink, a drop of rain,
A fragrance long forgotten or
A velvet touch, a pricking pain;

An aroma, a quaint sweetness,
All do trigger past memories
Of ambitions that filled my heart
Along with a million queries.

Those joys, those sorrows, those follies,
Those hopes and fears of days of yore,
That so coloured my youthful days,
In gray ones come alive once more.

I wish I killed those memories,
So they don’t raise their head again.
But without those memories my
Drab life would be yet more a pain.
