'Adieu', dirent les jonquilles

♠♠♠♠♠

The last of the daffodils
waved goodbye to the violets
that perfumed the lawn.

They had passed their crowns of gold
to dandelions
that turned up smiling faces
to the dogwoods staring down
in ivory and scarlet.

Here, the lichen crusted redbuds
greeted robins on their quest.

And ...

as if by my behest,
Old Mulberry by the water's fall
had greened anew.
