Almsgivers
[E] A note of thanks to my cousin Allen Lawrence Morgan of Bonanza, Arkansas.

Almsgivers

♠♠♠♠♠

I learned not to disturb the eaves
and barefoot is for those brave
and calloused of foot.
I learned that a dog lover
can love a cat.
And a businessman
with electronic brain cells and strong hands
can be kind to a lost cousin.

I give thanks to the almsgiver.

In this land of scorpions and wasps,
where sun and humidity
boil me in my own skin,
I trim the pink rosebush:
watchful for thorns,
watchful of the land.
Healing slowly under the bonanza
of the Arkansas sun,

I give thanks to The Almsgiver.
