Noodling
[13+] Playing the guitar or my emotions?

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Noodling

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

"I likes to noodle."

His body moves to a guitar strum,
the slide of fingers just begun. The pick
depicted in the jump of knees;
his gaze intense at strings-that-sing.

I slowly fade into the night's embrace,
too tired to follow the fingers' flit.

"I likes to noodle,"

he says with joy.
And I, in mind, imagine the boy
who grew up to play the singing saw,
to work with wires connecting us all
to the modern convenience of light.

But, tonight, this night,
I watch his fingers weave
among the guitar strings
with the joy of a boy upon his face
as he holds the guitar in a gentle embrace,
I wish were mine.
