Blood is sucked
[ASR] Before the killing frost the bugs seem to multiply.

Blood is sucked

♠♠♠♠♠

Mosquitos bite. Suck the last blood
out of Autumn's child. The songbirds
flock in the pear trees, chitter
and the butterflies gather nectar
under the wan sun.

The sweet potatoes blotch brown;
the ricinus curls up its leaves.
The touch of frost has visited.
But no sweet freeze

to still the mosquitos' buzz, to still the flight
of gold-green wings, to frighten the noisesome flocks
to flee fast south. The last blood of the
Autumn's child is sucked.
