WHEN EVENING FALLS
WHEN EVENING FALLS

When evening falls, shadows lengthen,
And sun withdraws its rays;
When cold darkness seeps all around,
A hesitant voice says:

“Don’t be so sure of morn, you fool,
This may be the last night.
But if it be, why get alarmed?
It will bring you respite.

Four score winters you have weathered.
You are so frail and weak.
Your body shakes, your limbs tremble.
Your joints are rough and squeak.

Why cling to this wasted body?
Quit all desire and whim.
In this evening of life, rather,
Think of none but of Him”.
