A proper time and place
When I first set up this blog, I promised myself to refrain from discussing politics. But sometimes politics spills over into other aspects of life that I must address. This is one of those times.

After reading this article http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060207/ts_nm/king_dc I admit to being a bit sickened. Say what you will about President Bush, the war in Iraq, or whatever, go for it.

But Coretta Scott King’s memorial service is not the proper venue to spout political rhetoric like, “She extended Martin's message against poverty, racism and war / She deplored the terror inflicted by our smart bombs on missions way afar. We know now there were no weapons of mass destruction over there / But Coretta knew and we knew that there are weapons of misdirection right down here / Millions without health insurance. Poverty abounds. For war billions more but no more for the poor.â€

This service was supposed to be about her, her life and her accomplishments, not be turned into a political rally.

And I’m sure most of the speakers at this service did just that. But instead of showcasing what Coretta’s family members and close friends had to say about her, the media (at least Reuter’s anyway) placed this article as top news, ignoring for now all the wonderful things this woman has accomplished.

Far be it for me to know anyone’s mind, but if I were Coretta, I’d be furious, or at the very least disappointed.
