TAINTED HEART


A tainted and tarnished heart,
A scalded heart is mine.
I tasted, without knowing,
Your poisonous love wine.

I breathe but I hardly live;
My heart beat is but faint.
Alas! The notions of love,
That I had were so quaint.

My heart is broken but why
Should I blame you for this?
It was I who offered you,
Myself that cursed kiss.

Now that all is gone I can
Let out only a sigh.
My heart and eyes are swollen.
I cannot even cry.
