I AM NO MORE SURPRISED
I AM NO MORE SURPRISED

I have ceased to be surprised
By what is surprising.
That what’s strange to others is
No longer exciting.

I have seen the earth shaking,
I’ve seen water on fire.
I have seen the old die with
The young bride on a pyer.

I have seen a friendship faked,
And marriage vows broken,
By those for whom sacrament
Is a flimsy token.

I have seen the fury of
A dame that has been spurned
By a man who has from her
Kind favours somehow turned.

I have seen cold cruelty
Hid behind lovely eyes.
I have seen the suspicious
Spouses acting as spies.

Not a vice I can think of
That I have not witnessed.
I am no more surprised when
One has too much digressed.
