These poems are about the strength of humanity and its weakness. They carve our image. |
Life Passage The season breathes upon us its cool breath of spring And places cheery roses on giggling, young cheeks. Joy scents the air, offering each a song to sing, For life is abundant in the sweetness of those weeks. Then the season blissfully melds into hot, dry nights, And love comes a knockin' with its marvelous call. Our hearts are unbounded and soar to new heights. Day becomes a paradise, and dreams grow tall. But the season soon drops its colored, autumn leaf. As we spend all our time in life’s daily wrappings, It steals grace from creaking bones, and then like a thief, It slips away, leaving us in weak, wrinkled trappings. The season frosts our hair in silver streaks of snow; It brittles all our joints and puts crimps in our backs, Forcing weary bodies to become a bit more slow, Bleaching out endurance as wintertime attacks. And as rationed moments crinkle underneath our feet, They loosen up the memories and soothe out the ache. But feel no great sadness for that last final defeat, For as one journey ends, another we will take. |
