Lake Michigan in April
         Lake Michigan in April

White topped waves stretch

horizon; girls wrapped in blankets
spread arms east to west. Hair
whipped wild, eyes glitter beneath
closed lids while blankets soar,
gusts caress,

press youthful curves.

Laughing, giddy, whirling; cloth
reluctantly gathered from North
Wind’s embrace molds round
girlish frames, hands clasped
close lest blankets liberate.

Eyes contemplate.

Curving embrace of sandy shore
invites eternal watery kisses.
Wind teases, encloses water
beneath trembling airy blanket.
Breathy delight shapes sand;

wavelets caress, lick, lap, bring
quiescent release.
