TAKE AWAY MY PAIN
TAKE AWAY MY PAIN

God please take away my pain,
Or take away my life,
As you have taken away
My dear devoted wife.

Twenty five long years did I
Have her in my embrace.
Why do I in my old age
Have loneliness to face?

There is none with whom to share
Many an inner thought.
Long and cold nights do I spend,
Turning sides in my cot.

My hand is not steady now,
My step is rather rough.
There is none to prop me up
During my bouts of cough.

And now this pain of cancer,
Gnawing at my innards,
Makes me cry inside though I
Keep just smiling outwards.
