Today is Imbolc/Candlemas...a day of purification and in Pagan circles, a day of initiating new members to a coven. So, generally, with a full moon, a good day for starting a blog.

I have placed candles throughout the house to honor this day and to welcome the energies of the Shekinah.

From Tarot of the Witches I have pulled the Wheel of Fortune---round and round the Wheel of Fate/Karma spins---sometimes bringing blessings, sometimes sorrow...turn, turn, turn, and one changes back to the other. I have been 55 times around the sun and simply filled with gratitude to still be here observing it all.

we are married by a thread
the red string that ties
all lovers and mamas together
wound round Rachel's tomb
worn as a charm
to free us from the wheel
you were first to go
and I shall soon follow
trailing a scent of incense and roses
will the wheel still turn
in the ever after
though perhaps, more slowly,
grinding finer
to a final stop

Perhaps we are the ones that crank the Wheel of Life?

I wrote the above as a tribute for one of my memory-impaired residents who is in the dying process. Her husband died 6 weeks ago, and since then she has just been waiting to join him.
