The Bleeding Starts

it flows from yesterday’s fears,
I remember the hurt
terrified that I would bleed to death
if I looked closely at the wound
I left it untreated and infected.

Now I must crawl inside
look at the reasons for my terror
watch as the blood flows
down the memory of old relationships
and illusions of love.
