Interesting Tidbit from a Literary Agent
Jonathan Lyons of the Lyons Literary Agency posted this on his blog
this week:
"Some things that immediately set off alarm bells (for me, at
least):
--100,000 words or more, and it's not historical fiction
--multi-general sagas from debut novelists
--bad mouthing a successful writer
--sent from jail
--hints that the sole purpose of the book is to obtain vengeance
against a former spouse/family member
--telling me you should be on Oprah"
When I was querying "The Wolf's Torment," was using the 1st draft (mistake #1) which was over 179,000 words. Even with IUniverse's editorial help, my final edit was about 125,000 words. As for the other points, my query in that regard didn't have any of that.
