Singles Bar
I cry out for love in my chosen style
cradle other customers with loving care
and a draft beer for a buck
at the time that anxious schoolgirls
will have worn fancy pearls before
making babies

where is the sunny side of the song I play
in the juke at the back of this smokey bar

a tot in short ponytails
at Highland Park zoo feeding
the ducks in a navy blue and white
striped jersey
a dried prom flower in a scrapbook
from a Math/Calc II student
that easily charted past
older, now
men make demands on me
ripe in a long red satin nightgown

I am captured by taboo while dreaming
of Bodies

a kitten lapping milk
candy for the poor

Swedish naked lovers in a Playhouse film
urinating in a restroom stall with Hugo on my mind after Tales Of Hoffman

how did I get there
is it
guess I don't look back or have to

over there, a man who looks like a magazine is whispering
go down
go down
your ice is melting
