Kinzu Dam/ Holiday Inn

At the dam
we spent our
last dollar,
a Second Chance
shirt for him,
a pair of linen
slacks for me,
a dollar a piece.
The breath-taking
gorge, falling water
like a cascading
rainbow,
was as serene
as
it was silent,
as approaching
as a doe in our
back yard
as we took an
early exit the next
morning when
we started up a
Chevy to return.
Memories of Venice
entwined like
lace
with the present, lost
after stifling heavy
heat, gave me
something to rest
my judgment on.
It was fascination,
the power of the
thick green forest,
the mighty dam.
