It was so close to being, that shining life I had believed in. Contempt is not a survivable sin and hate doesn't fade but festers. The heart sometimes stops before the sharpest barbs can draw blood. I believe that part of it is a gift God gives us to help us bear our losses. There is comfort in knowing that the worse of what could be done to your heart has already been done - there is only that vague sense of "almost" and that tragic misunderstanding left in the wake of broken love.
