Stepping forward
Today felt like a stronger day for me. I felt fortified enough to spend some time doing some much needed revision on one of my difficult and personal pieces, Step Back. In a move that surprised me even more, I swtiched it back to first person. The result is a disturbing piece for which I have removed the safetly barrier by becoming more than just the narrator. I think it works better this way. There are parts that are rough and need to be reworked, but it is better I believe. I am still shocked to find I have edited out the worst of it all though, whether I am still saving face or being kind to the reader I don't know. On another front, I've begun working in earnest on another piece. For its own reasons, that on is a challenge but one I think I have a home for should I manage to continue it. It still feels a little like I am avoiding the most important story still but I tell myself I am working up to it, rather than working around it. At any rate, I am writing and editing with renewed vigor and I am thankful.
