I’m a George Too
Jamál (Beauty), 9 Bahá (Splendor), 166 BE – Saturday-Sunday, March 29, 2009 about 7:18 AM Pacific Time

I went to a memorial service yesterday. The service, which was held at the Baha'i Center in Las Vegas, occurred about 4:30 PM. The man whose life we celebrated was born on July 19, 1922 and passed into the next world on March 21, 2009. When his wife died, a few years ago, Mom and I went to both the funeral service and the memorial service. However, this time I just went to the memorial service.

I'm not sure precisely how long I've know Gil and Marge, I think I met them in 1987. I've known them for as long as I've been a Baha'i and I can't remember precisecly when I declared my faith in Baha'u'llah. Anyway, Gil called everyone George, it didn't matter whether they were older or younger then him; he called them George.

I wrote a poem about Marge's funeral service and I'm going to write a poem about Gil, but I'm not sure just yet about the theme. I have so many memories about Marge and Gil, that it's difficult to put all of them into a single poem. I always think of the two of them together because you always saw them together. They were always together and attended every event together.

The pictures show a couple smiling,
happy together.

I'm a George too
just like all the rest of you.
