Those Who Scorn Be Not Proud
Her friends scorned her latest relationship
Told her it was a scandal
That she should not commit herself
To such an unworthy man.

He heard their speech
And looked up at them
With deep hurt showing in his eyes
They glared back with cold, stony looks.

They warned her
Not to continue
With a such a relationship
Because he was "bad".

He looked into her eyes
Pleading silently for support
She looked beyond -
Deep into his heart and soul.

Her friends scorned her again
They told her again that he was bad
She had hoped they'd be thrilled
When they met him.

They questioned her upbringing
She questioned them her rights
They questioned her morals
She questioned them if it was because he was black - it was.
