Evening in Las Vegas
Istijlál (Majesty), 10 ‘Izzat (Might), 166 BE – Wednesday, September 16, 2009 about 8:41 PM Pacific Time

It's after sunset in Las Vegas. I'm weary and I have to lock the car and roll up the windows. The changes in the past 62 years is amazing and frightening. I don't remember my grandfather ever locking his car when it was parked in his own driveway or garage. I attempt to lock my car every night, it doesn't matter if I leave it parked in the driveway or in the garage.

Sometimes I go out in the morning and find I didn't lock it or roll up a window, but that's rare. This is a nice neighborhood with families and senior citizens. I still attempt to lock my car each night. I lock the doors to the house. I don't remember my grandparents ever locking their doors at night when they were home. When they went shopping or out of town they locked the door, but when they were home the doors were unlocked. I wouldn't think of leaving my doors unlocked when I'm home.

It's evening in Las Vegas. As I look out my living room window, I realize that locked doors are no protection. However, I feel safe in my own home. It may be an illusionary safety, but I feel safe as long as the doors are locked.
