Why do I worry?

Mom went to the doctor today because she need her ears cleaned out. She is getting a hearing aid sometime this week and her right ear needed to be wax free, so I made an appointment with the doctor. I said Mom seemed depressed and he prescribed a medication for depression.

I don't know if it's the right thing to do, but I'm at my wits end. Mom wants to do work around the house. Mom is capable of doing some housework, but she appears too depressed to do it. In addition, she has been calling herself names. The doctor said if the meds didn't help she could stop taking them. I don't know if medication is the right approach in this case or not.
