June 16 - Glass
He couldn’t walk barefoot anymore, not for months, not ever possibly, in that apartment. A complete non sequitur his brain glommed onto. Easier than explaining the violation at the failed robbery attempt. The police joked he gained security cameras for the building while his neighbor, hero of the hour, hid in her apartment. The super hauled up plywood. Good for privacy, bad against the elements. It wasn’t classified as an emergency by the landlord. They’d get to it next week. But hey, at least reinstalling the window was free. A safety gate was $400 extra. Could he take it out of next month’s rent? Only he thought the question funny.
