Wondering about my Wanderings

The Story

I am at work and hear someone tell me their story for what seems like an eternity. We are from two different worlds. I am a white middle class man whose grandparents immigrated from Sweden. He is a brown colored man who is the product of black man and lighter skinned mother. I am in awe as I listen to his story. He shares about his family, his adventures on the football field and about work in the prison system. It is a very sobering account of what is really going on in the ghetto in prisons and in the police force. He is animated throughout the telling of the story. By the end of his sharing I feel like we have known each other. We may not come from the same neighborhood, our quest to be humane and respected transcends any need to be better or in some way. We are all in this thing we call life together.
