Stories for my second go round of 30 Day Image Prompt Contest |
Ralph had had the worst morning ever. First, his alarm didn't go off, and he was already late for work. Then, he burned his toast and there was no more bread left in his house. Next, he spent fifteen minutes looking for his car keys before finally finding them in the first place he had looked. When he finally made it out to his car, one hour after he was supposed to be at work, his car wouldn't start. To beat it all, today was the day that he was to be interviewed for a promotion. He had been working toward that promotion for nearly a year. Ralph rushed back inside to call a cab. After spending another five minutes getting a busy signal, he finally got through to the cab company. The woman who answered the phone assured him that a driver would be there within ten minutes. A glance at his watch told him that his interview would begin in half an hour. He'd be cutting it close, but he could make it. Just as promised, a cab pulled up in front of his house exactly ten minutes later. Ralph was ecstatic that it was on time. He grabbed his briefcase, locked his door and ran out to the cab. He opened the door to discover a dog in the driver's seat! He looked again at his watch, then at the dog that had begun tapping its paw on the steering wheel. After the morning he had already had, Ralph decided not to risk it. He shut the car door and moped back into his house, resigning himself to get over the dream of an office with a window. |
