Blog City Prompt: Friday the 13th, also known as Black Friday in some countries, is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition. What's your take? I believe that folks who usually have negative thoughts and expectations will attract more of the same. Friday the 13th is a perfect way to prove their bad luck. Victim mentality. Black Friday is an American and British super shopping day coming immediately after Thanksgiving and launching the Christmas selling extended season. The name originally came from the idea that on that day retailers profits would finally turn 'into the black'. I'm not sure that's been true for all this past season as more people are laid off and some companies declare bankruptcy. In history, the number 13 has many times been considered unlucky. And how many buildings do not count the thirteenth floor. Thirteen guests at the table could mean that one will die. On Friday, 13 October 1307, hundreds of the Knights Templar were arrested in France, possibly giving rise to the fear of a curse on that day. The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci shows thirteen diners and the thirteenth is Judas. So today it is a beautiful, sunny day in Belize. We'll see how it goes. I think it might snow in Boston.
