Two Mother's Day Poems
Mama taught me how to pray

Mama taught me how to pray,
"Now I lay me down to sleep,"
I said this prayer every night,
I knew my soul the Lord would keep.

Today she walks in paradise,
With my grandmother by her side,
They were always the best of friends
In God's garden they now abide.

Mama taught me how to pray,
So on this Mother's Day I write,
About the prayer she taught me
To say before I slept each night.

Another Mother's Day Without Mama

Another Mother's Day
without Mama.

It's the third one
in a row
and it hasn't
gotten any easier.

Memories -
starfish upon the beach -
flow into my mind,
my tears fall,
and I whisper a prayer
for the progress of her soul.

I contemplate
the grave
that contains
her mortal remains...

A vision enters my mind
of Mama
and grandma
walking in paradise
beneath the Tree of Life.
