Cooking and Camping at Yellowstone
Has anyone reserve a campsite? If so which one? I recommend Mammoth Hot Springs. It is only $20 per night per unit.

Mammoth has water spigots, flush toilets, generator use. It is located in the North part of Yellowstone. There are 85 units available which may be a good fit for our group.

Campfires are only allowed in designated grills in park campgrounds. But, a grill means more food choices because you can use utensils made for cooking and frying. Some of you fishing enthusiasts should get out and bring home the fish for dinner. Otherwise, I think pancakes with maple syrup packets, bacon, and eggs might suffice. Or, fresh caught fish and home fries if we have some fishing enthusiasts. "Don't expect to fish off the Fishing Bridge because it is now only a place to observe fish."

All water used to cook or clean dishes or bodies has to be flushed down the toilets to avoid attracting wild animals. Food particles from left over meals stored in cartons or plastic that will keep any odors from escaping to avoid attracting wild creatures.

Mammoth also has an elevation of 6200 ft. Tonight's temp will be about 41 degrees so it will be chilly around the camp.

When thinking of cleanup remember to use soaps and shampoos with as little odor at possible. Perfumes attract wild beasts. It would be a plus if after dark you walked around using the buddy system. Or, if you like to take chances, o.k.

Another plus for a group experience is the ranger programs in the Amphitheater at Mammoth Hot Springs camp. There are ranger walks, talks about the types of wildlife in the area, who could use more info on the bear population and habit? Me for sure.

Lots and lots of great scenery at Mammoth Hot Spring Camp ground don't forget your film.

One draw back to this spot is the road is presently closed from 11 p.m. to 7a. m. on the Norris to Mammoth Road Construction Project. I'm not sure how this will affect us.
