Reading
I just finished reading The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks. He writes love stories, almost always in North Carolina. I really appreciated the author's note at the end, in which he explained his research and his goals in writing the novel. It would be edifying to anyone, but is particularly helpful to writers. It confirmed that we all have a few things in common. He brought it all together in his unique and fascinating way. I couldn't put the book down as I got near the end. And, yes, I cried.
I remember reading Standing In The Rainbow by Fannie Flagg, and crying like a baby at the end. When the heroine, an ordinary everyday woman-not devestatingly beautiful or successful like so many heroines, died, I felt like I had lost a friend. I lost someone of whom I become quite fond.
