Backpacking Europe: Day 18

Brandenburg Gate

A chariot and three horses atop the gate
remind me of a fallen empire;
empires fall while humanity survives
hopefully take with it the lessons learned.

The Holocaust Memorial

Tears cannot wash away the horror of useless deaths;
men, women, children, poets and artist
lives and works cuts short by hate.

Remember to place a stone on the graves
to emphasize that the dead are remembered.

Dinner Looking Down on Berlin

Sunset is the same and different
in every city on the planet.

Eat, drink, and remember the sunset
because it symbolizes the passage of time
and both the permanence and impermanence of life.
