Building Hands
"Building Hands

Blog City Prompt Forum, January 7, 2017

Writing from Remembrance-What stories are in your hands? I've always been fascinated with the lines and stories in people's hands. When you look at your palms what stories do they hold? What have your hands built?

I can't really say that my hands have built a whole lot of anything. I've never been real adept at working with my hands so anything I ever tried to build usually turned out looking more like a project having a convulsion than anything nice. On the other hand my powers of expression have always been superb. So I have been able to create what I consider to some excellent writing. I guess I'm not the only one who finds my writing exceptional. I have traditionally published four books. My publisher chose my first book out of 500,000 possible submissions. I can't imagine even reading that many submissions but they have teams that do nothing but screen manuscripts. So they read and rejected about 500K before selecting mine. I know because they told me so.

I have also developed a strong ability to forge relationships. At one time I was pretty much a self-centered jerk but I've grown up quite a bit since then. There are many who would say that I'm a bit too direct but I try to treat other's the way I want to be treated. I wouldn't want somebody to urinate on me and tell me it's raining and I won't tell others things that are dishonest either. Sometimes honesty can be painful but if my honesty is going to ultimately help somebody then so be it. I'll ride with anybody through any kind of BS as long as they don't BS me. So building solid relationships is a strong point with me.

My soft hands haven't seen a lot of hard work unless you consider typing hard work. However they are still skilled hands and can build some things that are actually pretty awesome.
