Good?
Motivational Monday! Actor William H. Macy, born on this day in 1950, once said, "Everyone hooks up with George Clooney. He's a genuinely cool guy. He's using his powers for good." How are you using your powers for good?
I'll concede that I do not have ol' George's good looks, or power to cause many a woman to swoon. Ooh, ick, that would not be a cool thing at all! I couldn't handle that responsibility, or liability. Don't swooners, as a general rule, lose their ability to reason, and speak? Yeah, I don't want that happening to females. We need to keep our wits about us, and our voices.
I definitely do not possess super powers of strength, but I can dream. My hopes are modest. There's no call for me to leap tall buildings, or run faster than a bullet.Being capable of executing several steps without stumbling would be more than enough physical prowess for me. Now, when my kids were younger, the whole x-ray vision thing would've been a handy super Mom power, and so would I have embraced super-human hearing. But I digress, or stall...
I seem to have the gift of gab. I can, and will strike up a conversation with anybody anywhere. Waiting rooms provide the perfect venue. We all have time to kill, and we may test the waters by complaining about the tediousness, and necessity for waiting. Then we may well rant about the weather. It exists to thwart and irk us. It emphasizes our powerlessness. Sooner or later, we comment about why we are sitting idly. We exchange our stories.Good conversation utilizes good listening skills. We discover the power of common camaraderie.
Never under estimate the power of a good laugh. Late one night after hours spent worrying in a cramped hospital room, I boarded an elevator with an equally haggard man. We exchanged silent nods, and we pressed the lobby button. As the doors slid shut, I glanced at the control panel, and noticed nothing but frayed wires where the emergency-call phone was supposed to be.I looked back at him, and raised my eyebrows. We both began guffawing. How ridiculous that in a hospital where safety should've been a priority, we could not call for assistance if the elevator suddenly decided to stall. Imagine not being able to summon 911 from within that institution.
Hmm, I do seem to possess the prowess to bake. My cookies, muffins, and cakes are more than sweet nothings. Shared calories cancel each other out. Who doesn't love dessert? I use this 'power' to spread a little sugar.
