Carp Memories

Does carp make a good pet
or good food?

Grandpa always said:
The best way to cook a carp
was to nail it to a board,
or other piece of wood,
and cook the fish on a grill.

When the carp was done,
remove it from the board,
throw the carp away
and eat the board.

I don't remember eating carp
when I was a child
or any other time for that matter.

I remember Grandpa fishing
along the Chikaskia River,
but if he caught any carp
he never kept them.

I do remember Grandpa
bring home strings of catfish
for us to eat.

I remember all sorts of fish
swimming in our home aquarium
except carp.
