among her lists of lists
and stone-age dreams,
she shaped weapons
from rocks
of Neolithic times
to throw at him

chert, jasper, agate,
and chalcedony
though they could be
exchanged with
diamond, emerald, or ruby

yet, in their midst
she could accept
aquamarine, opal, or pearl
sapphire, topaz, or spinel

But these lists were misses
no kisses they brought
so she came up with
a better list with a twist.
mortal and murderous,
while she sang
“Fifty ways to leave your lover”
