The Lover's Prayer

Goal of my desire!
Forgive the love for you
that hope for paradise,
that sees as heaven its reward
for worshiping your light.

Beloved of my soul!
Forgive the love
that fears hell's fire,
that hold above my trembling spirit
eternal punishment.

Answer of my prayers!
Bless me with unselfish love
that neither fears nor hopes,
but worships your immortal essence
for itself alone.
