Christmas Trees in January

Christmas trees in January
look forlorn and unhappy
they no longer celebrate anything.

The "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise prompt for DAY 1482
It's one week into January...what do you make of people who still have their Christmas decorations up?

January 7, which is the day following Epiphany, is the traditional time to remove a Christmas tree. I believe different Christian sects have different days to "take down the tree". Catholics take the tree down on January 8, the day after Epiphany. My grandparents, who were Southern Baptists, took the tree down sometime between Christmas and New Year's Day. I think they had a special day to remove the tree, it was just when Grandma decided she had time to put the decorations back in storage.

I don't see anything wrong with leaving the Christmas tree up until around January 7 or 8, especially since most trees today are artificial. I can remember my grandparents having real Christmas trees, which became a fire hazard after they began to shed their needles. Grandpa would purchase the tree on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving, we would decorate it on Saturday or Sunday, and then Grandma would have the tree taken down the day after Christmas. After they bought an artificial tree, Grandma wasn't in such a hurry to take it down because (in her eyes) it wasn't a fire hazard
