May my opinions gather wind under their wings and fly, perchance to soar.

Being armed is a fallacy
Being armed is a fallacy
March 14, 2018; Missoula, Montana

There is a fallacy (promoted by some in the NRA) that having weapons protects one. It doesn't if you are caught unawares (Denmark 9 April 1940) or out-armed (Reagan's Invasion of Grenada) or if the weapon is inappropriate (in bear country, use bear spray) or if the 'enemy' uses another approach (the poisoning of Russian dissidents). Plus... arms don't always win. The Underground resisting the Nazi regime of WW2 didn't have more guns, yet managed to do damage like the blowing up of the heavy-water plant Vemork in Rjukan, Norway on February 27, 1942. Ambush and sabotage have always been the friends of the oppressed. ISIS understands this even if Western people and their governments don't.
