Regret

There is nothing I would take back now,
but unkindness.
Listen closer.
Touch without prying.
Muffle that whistle of pride.
We all have feet of clay,
and dragons to slay.
Push and peck away
the niblets of hate,
yardbirds in a pen.
And watch this pit
in my middle chest
dissolve away.
