Western Wind: A Meditation
Western Wind:
A Meditation

"Western wind, when wilt thou blow?
That the small rain down may rain,
Christ! that my love were in my arms
And I in my bed again."
Anonymous

Western wind, when wilt thou blow?
Again across this veil of tears?
When will you extinguish
The sun's light with the chadar of fear?
Not before a full thousand years
Has expired in this veil of tears
Will the wind of night again blow.

That the small rain down may rain,
Again upon the soil of life
Flooding the fields of faith
With the waters of spiritual strife;
Blocking the high passes of certitude
With the charcoal snow of grief
Before the sun rises again.

Christ! that my love were in my arms
Again in the veil of tears
To be woken by the rising sun
Turning red the clouds of fear;
Setting fire to lovers hearts
With ray reflected by God's mirror
From the sun of God's new day.

And I in my bed again.
Watching the rainbow of God's covenant
That the new risen sun renewed
Across religion's firmament.
And I rising from my bed
Obedient to God's commandments
Again in God's new day.
