Making a House a Home

Unwrapping
early Christmas presents:
I remove,

layer by layer,
self-sticking decorative paper
from wooden shelves.

Revealing
the naked wood
to the light of day,

I let knotted eyes
look again
upon the real world.

My First Night in My Own Home

The long absence of corporal creatures
chills the air,
and must the whispers of matter.

Rising on the empty air
prayers resonate
filling the silent hours.
