Centerpiece:
A Metaphor

The embodiment of blind faith,
the centerpiece sets
in the middle of a brown table.

A pyramid of
red carnations,
white daisies,
and green plastic fer-leaves.

The white daisies
are framed by the carnations,
and the fern-leaves.

Climbing upward,
the carnations are framed
by the fern-leaves.

At the pyramid's peak
the tallest carnation
surveys its domain;

a construction
of God-made flowers
and man-made leaves.

I wrote this in 147 B.E. It was inspired by a centerpiece composed of both living flowers and plastic/artificial leaves.
