Day 1899: "I have a writing addiction." Prince Do you feel like this? Write anything you want about this.
]
Writing Addiction

Am I addicted to writing? Do chickens lay eggs? The answer to both those questions is yes. Yes, I am addicted to writing. Specifically, I am addicted to writing poetry, which--I suspect--is a healthier addiction than smoking or some other addictions I've heard of. I used to be addicted to smoking, but I gave that up over ten years ago. I cannot give up writing. I cannot give poetry writing. Writing keeps me sane in an insane world, or maybe it's insane in a sane world. Whichever it is, I cannot give up my addiction to writing poetry.

The compulsion to write poetry
does not fulfill my body's needs
nor sate my desire.

When I am in the arms of the Muse
food is moldy leftovers,
sleep is a discarded lover
at the door of my consciousness;
shelter is the rusted husk of a topless convertible
in an Oklahoma snow storm;
and sexual satisfactions
is a stale cigarette
in the mouth of my libido.

DAY 2293: If you were to use your possessions to tell a story, what would they say about you?

Possessions

At 72 years young, I don't care about what my possessions say about me. Eventually whatever I own will either go to someone else or be tossed in the trash. There are some items that I would like passed on to someone who could use them without become attached to them. I've made three moves since my mother died, and I still have things left from the first move, I'm working on getting everything passed to the people they should go to. However, I'm on a fixed income and it cost to send things across the country. I'm tired of lugging the stuff around, and I don't want it cluttering up my life anymore.
