Timelines

Most scriptwriters use either NIGHT or DAY when it comes to their script locations. But that’s not the way that I do it with my scripts. With DAY or NIGHT, that leaves a lot of time that the scene can take place. I like to level my time of NIGHT or DAY a little bit more specific. Especially, with my Science Fiction scripts. What does that mean? It means the I’m not your typical scriptwriter.

Of course, there are some scriptwriters that don’t just use DAY or NIGHT in the LOCATION HEADINGS aka lOGLINES. They use other time references like DUSK, DAWN, EVENING, OVERNIGHT, Etc. I use them too when it comes to my non-Science Fiction scripts. If I ever write any. But I like to add a word or two before some of them too. Words like: EARLY, LATE, JUST BEFORE, JUST AFTER, etc.

Science Fiction scripts are a little bit more than what I have written above. The two that I also use are SPACE and MODE. SPACE is kind of obvious. Whether EXT. or INT. SPACE is use when Space is needed. Like for a SPACESHIP, a COMET, an ASTROID, etc. MODE is a little different, though. At least it is to me. I use MODE with INT. LOCATION HEADINGS. Words like EARLY DAY MODE, LATE MIDDAY MODE, etc.

I like that most Directors, Producers, etc. like to use just NIGHT or DAY. But even they will except another version of time like DUSK, DAWN, etc. Other than that, they don’t like to see more specific LOCATION HEADINGS. I’m not like that, though. I do like to have more detail. After all, I know that when it comes to the final Shooting Scripts it’s going to be whatever the Directors, Producers, etc. want it to be. This is just my way of showing what it should be.

Why am I writing about timelines? It’s because that is what I have been working on all day today on my second day off from work. What little time I have had to do any writing. My brother and I have been very busy all day. Don’t get me wrong. I have done some writing when it comes to timelines. But I haven’t had too much time to do it.

It was enough to get them done, though. At least it has for my second scriptwriting project, The Problems with Death. Unfortunately, that is all that I have had time to do today. Well, that isn’t exactly true. I have made some corrections with Teaser Act One and Act One too. Now I am ready to start working on Act Two and beyond. But I just don’t think that I’m going to be to continue doing it this week.
