Masks and incompetence...
Response to ♥Hooves♥ :

"When covid hit I was in Taiwan. They did two things of note: 1. banned the export of masks, 2. upped the production to millions per day. They also rationed at the beginning to prevent hoarding. Later they made mask mandatory to enter certain buildings and on the metro/trains. This was 'easy' to accomplish because East Asian cultures do not have a cultural fear of masks and use them when someone is sick. They also have a high level of respect for others. And ... an epidemiologist was running the show not businessmen or partisans.

The USA is NOT Taiwan. The lack of leadership was at all levels from Americans making masks a political issue of defiance to a government without a plan or a clue. A country that is capable of manufacturing ammunitions (USA #1, ten times the output of #7 China in 2018) can't figure out how to make masks? And doesn't even encourage people to make their own back in March? Oh, the mixed messages! The #1 country in the world in what? @#$%&@$ (translate that however you wish).

Some of the homemade masks here have been very interesting. A friend added tassles. Made her look exotic! We old folks need some humor. You are probably right about making enough masks to make the pandemic fade away. *Smile* We all tend to be best prepared after the fact. (Wonder who still has cases of TP.)"
