Meeting new friends/family?
Chapter 5
Earlin was the first one up. While she was taking a shower and getting ready for the new day her mother-in-law to be was fixing breakfast and getting Lily ready for school. They were just finishing breakfast when William came into the dining room. At 7:30 a.m. he and Lily left for school. A.J. was fussing to let them know he was awake and ready to get up too. John went and got him. They ate breakfast together while Susannah and Earlin packed her clothes and necessities for her stay with Leo and his family.
By the time William got back the dishes were done and Earlin was packed. She was just getting ready to make the call to the Probate Lawyer. William sat down across the table from her while she made the call. She was mad when she got off the phone because the secretary refused to make an appointment unless there was an adult there who would be in charge.
"Why can I not take care of this myself? I am old enough!"

"I know Honey. It's okay. I will be there with you, but will do what I can to keep the lawyer focused on you and let you do this," William said while John called the Lawyer back.
"Thank you. The appointment is next Monday at 10:45 a.m. They’ll be there."
"I will take a vacation day so I can be with you," William said.
"I have to have a copy of the will, death certificate, deeds, and everything else that I can," she said. She went and got the four boxes of paper work and brought it to the table. They went through each box, together. They separated everything from letters to pictures to documents, etc. It was 3:30 p.m. before they realized they had not eaten lunch. Thankfully School didn’t get our for another twenty minutes. William went and picked Lily up. Earlin fixed hamburgers and hash browns. Susannah cleaned the table off, making sure to keep things separated. She then set the table and they all sat down and ate when William and Lily go home.
Susannah and John made sure to stay out of the way until Earlin started lunch. They also made sure to keep A.J. occupied and fed him when he was hungry. John helped William while Susannah grated the potatoes and put them into the pan to fry. Earlin used her mom's recipe for the hamburgers. She mixed the meat with oats and two raw eggs. This made them bigger and also made sure there was enough to feed everyone.
After dinner Susannah and John did the dishes while Earlin and William started on a new box. They were about halfway through it when there was a knock on the door. Earlin looked at her watch as John opened the door. It was 6:00 p.m.

"Hi Mr. Clark," John said.
"Hi," he replied and then saw Earlin and William.
William introduced him to his parents while Earlin finished clearing the table off and putting things back into the boxes. Susannah asked him if he would like to stay for dinner.

"That sounds good. Let me call my wife and see what she wants to do."
"Hi Honey."
"How was your day? Are you still working? Where are you?”
"Good. No. I am over here at the Lords’s place now and they invited us to eat. Would you like to come over and join us or what do you want to do?”
"I would like to join you and meet the family of the girl who will be staying with us."
"Okay. Do you want me to come get you?"
"Yes."
"I'll be there in a few. Love you."
"I love you too."
Turning to the others he said, "We’d love to join you for dinner. I will have to go get her. When will dinner be ready?"
"We'll order in pizza. What kind do you like? How many people in your family?"
"We will eat whatever you order. There’s just the two of us."
"Okay. It should be here in about half an hour."
He left. Susannah called in the order for two extra large pepperoni pizzas. Two orders of bread sticks. They already had pop at the house. While this was going on Earlin set the table for seven. Leo and his wife arrived at the same time the pizza did. Since they weren't paying for the pizza Leo gave the driver a generous tip of five dollars.
After saying grace they all dug in. Leo introduced his wife Jenny to everyone.
"Thank you for inviting us for dinner."
"You're welcome," said Susannah.
Turning to Earlin, "How are you doing young lady?" asked Jenny.
"I’m fine. I have been keeping busy so not to dwell on it."
"We are looking forward to having you stay with us. It has been a while since we’ve had anyone stay with us. Our children have grown up and moved out."
"Thank you for your hospitality"
"Leo have you found anything out as to why you have been asked to keep her until we are married?"
"No. I have been really busy today but I hope to find out soon."
