Eversince, I was a kid I dreamt of becoming a writer. Probably got it from reading too many comic magazines. You see, in my country the Philippines, one of the favorite past time is reading "komiks", an illustrated magazine that features serialized stories of romance, drama, adventure, comedy and what have you. Some of these stories were later on turned into soap operas and movies due to their popularity. Anyway, komiks made my mind soar and I created stories in my mind during those afternoon naps I was supposed to be napping but instead weaving stories in my mind. Usually, in my stories I would be a rich kid with the love of my life (depends on who was my crush at that time) tagging along as we traveled to different places. Since I lived in the city, I would dream of rural places where I would be swimming in rivers, hiking mountains, climbing trees, and of course, spending money that was limitless. I started to appreciate writing in highschool. I remember some senior students who read my essays wanting to meet me. I took up journalism in college and won some awards. One was on the spot essay writing contest which got featured in our campus newspaper and eventually landed me a spot as one of its writers and editors. After graduation, I took a teaching post in our church's ACE school where one of my responsibility was teaching children to write book reports. This experience made me appreciate literature more and gave me a chance to make a more in depth study of some great pieces of literature. I still dream of one day making it big as an established author and with writing.com assisting me, I could see that it's just one novel away. {  } |
| I have been a born again Christian since summer of 1979 when a friend introduced to me the Lord Jesus Christ in a new light! I knew that He was God and He was born of the Virgin Mary and that He died 2000 years ago on a cross by crucifixion. All these, I had learned as a child from my mother and from the Catholic school I had attended. However, that night my friend pointed out that, yes, Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world but most especially, He died for MY sins. He pointed out that the Word of God says we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. My friend said that I could receive that gift if I wanted to. Of course, I wanted it. That's eternal life we were talking about! But first, he said that I had to ask Jesus to come into my heart. I had to invite Him by faith to be my personal Lord and Savior and that I had to acknowledge that I could not save myself through good works. I didn’t find anything wrong in all of these and I found myself thirsting for God. Suddenly, I found myself longing for Him and I could sense emptiness inside me that I knew right there and then that only Jesus can fill. We prayed the prayer of acceptance that night and since then God has been faithful. It is true that He never forsakes His own. There were times that I would fall by the wayside but God always carry me back to the fold. It's amazing how God could easily forgive as long as we come back to Him in true repentance. Truly, our salvation does not depend on what we could do but on what Christ did for us. I'm now 47 years old and I want to spend the rest of my life serving God. I did serve the Lord when I was younger for I had been a president of our young people's fellowship where I wrote and directed some stage plays for the church. I also taught Sunday school for adults and was once a worship leader aside from being a deacon in the church. I took up Pastoral Ministry courses in our church's Bible Institute, however, I was not able to finish the entire 4 year course for I shifted to a secular course in a local university. After earning a degree in journalism, I taught elementary and high school students in our church's academy. After five years, however, I had to look for another job that would provide me a better income. By doing so, I had to relocate to Manila which is 200 miles away from my church. Finding a new church was not that easy and I drifted from one church to another until there were times I wouldn't go to church on a Sunday. Sometimes, I would content myself in watching worship services in television. I did find a local church wherein my family and I are now attending to. It's a small church but at least I could put myself into God's service once again. Over time, I was designated an assistant pastor and from time to time would deliver the Sunday's sermon. Being back to God's fold inspires me to write for His glory knowing that I have a good news to share. Genej  rdan |

| I have signed up today at www.digitaljournal.com and here's a short biography that I have provided with them: My name is Genaro Geneta and I'm from the Philippines. In college, I majored in Journalism and was a writer and editor of the campus newspaper. As a student reporter, I had covered rallies and protest marches against then President Ferdinand Marcos. I had joined local and international press in a 5-day fact finding mission about military abuses in far flung areas of the mountain region in the Philippines during the martial law years. After graduation, I taught high school pupils in an ACE school for five years. I then worked for 4 years at Quorum Litigation Services, a BPO, as document analyst and for 7 years in the same company as a coding supervisor. Presently, I work for TeleTech, a US-based call center, as customer service representative for Blue Shield of California. My task is to assist health care providers in providing claim status, reprocessing of their denied claims and coordinating with other BCBS plan from another states through email or phone calls. I'm interested to write in Digital Journal to continue my short lived career as a journalist. |
